It is really two twin islands, not one, and between them lies the anchorage where the sailing boats crossing to Colombia stop. That makes it the island in the archipelago where you are most likely to meet people who did not arrive by boat from Panama.
It sits in the west, the opposite end from Cayos Limones, so the run from the port is longer than on the nearby group's tours. One tour in our catalogue names it, the $135 reef snorkelling one, and that is what justifies the journey: the reef is there, not in Limones.
The name appears spelled three ways depending on the map — Chichime, Chichime, Chichimei — and all three mean the same place.
