Do You Get Motion Sickness Easily? Tips for the Trip to San Blas

Let’s be honest: the road to Guna Yala is winding. It’s about 40 minutes of ups and downs through the mountains before you reach the pass. With these tips, you won’t even notice it.

Before You Leave

  • Take your motion sickness pill 30–60 minutes before pickup. This is tip #1, and it works best.
  • Eat a light breakfast. Don’t travel on an empty stomach, but avoid a heavy breakfast as well.
  • Avoid alcohol the night before.

During the Ride

  • Ask for the front seat—feeling the road reduces motion sickness significantly.
  • Look at the horizon, not at your phone. Reading or looking at screens makes motion sickness worse.
  • Fresh air: open the window a little on the winding stretches.

On the boat

The boat ride is short (20–40 min) and usually calm during the day. Sit in the back (it moves less) and look at the horizon. The breeze and the view will do the rest.

What if I still get seasick?
