The San Blas Natural Pool: What It Is and Why It's Famous

Imagine standing in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, kilometers from the coast, with water up to your waist and white sand beneath your feet. That’s the Natural Pool—and yes, it’s as surreal as it sounds.

What exactly is it?

A submerged sandbar in the middle of the sea, where the water remains between knee and waist depth for hundreds of meters. The water is so clear that it looks like an infinity pool—hence the name.

The starfish

The Natural Pool is famous for its orange starfish resting on the sandy bottom. Golden rule: admire them and take photos, but never remove them from the water—out of the water, they die within minutes. The Guna guides take great care to protect this ecosystem.

The Perfect Moment on the Tour

All our day tours include a stop at the Natural Pool, usually as the finale of the tour (~2:30 p.m.). It’s the last dip before heading back—and the photos that get the most likes.
