Snorkeling in San Blas: The Best Spots and What You'll See
Crystal-clear waters, healthy reefs, and shallow depths: San Blas is one of the best places in Panama for snorkeling—even if it’s your first time.
The Best Spots
- The Perro Chico Shipwreck: the classic spot. A sunken ship at a depth of 2 meters, accessible by swimming from the beach, teeming with tropical fish.
- Cayos Coco Bandero: corals in excellent condition and calm waters.
- Cayos Holandeses: the best visibility in the region—up to 20+ meters on good days.
- La Piscina Natural: it’s not deep snorkeling, but floating among starfish feels like magic.
What You’ll See
Sergeant major fish, parrotfish, blue surgeonfish, schools of sardines, orange starfish, and, if you’re lucky, eagle rays and sea turtles.
Tips
- If you have your own mask and snorkel, bring them (perfect fit guaranteed). Ask when booking if your tour includes equipment.
- Use biodegradable sunscreen: regular sunscreen damages the coral.
- Never step on or touch the coral—it dies on contact.
- Not a strong swimmer? With a life jacket, you can float and still enjoy the view.
